Treatment Benefits
A healthy, attractive smile is a source of confidence and emotional well-being. It's also an important part of an individual's overall health. Teeth, lips and jaws that aren't correctly aligned can result in "malocclusion," or "bad bite." Uncorrected, a bad bite may lead to poor oral function, tooth decay, gum disease and eventually tooth loss. Braces and other corrective procedures can help achieve tooth and jaw alignment, and most importantly, a healthy, confident smile that can last a lifetime.
How Orthodontic Treatment Works
Orthodontic appliances can be made of metal, ceramic or plastic. They may be removable, or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. By placing a constant, gentle force in a carefully controlled direction, braces slowly move teeth to a corrected position.
This is a great time to wear braces! Gone are the days when a metal band with a bracket was placed around each tooth. You can choose brackets that are clear or metallic color. You can choose the color of the ties that hold the wire in brackets. Wires are also less noticeable than they used to be, and the latest materials move teeth faster with less discomfort to patients. For example, Smile dental care is proud to offer Damon® System technology, which features a unique, low-friction brace that requires less tightening.
Duration of Treatment
Treatment time typically ranges from one to three years, depending on the growth of the patient's mouth and face and the severity of the problem. Patients grow at different rates and will respond differently to orthodontic treatment, so the time to case completion may change from the original estimate. The patient's diligent use of any prescribed rubber bands or appliance is an important factor in achieving the most efficient treatment. We work closely with our patients to ensure they have the information, support and motivation necessary to actively advance their treatment and achieve their goals.
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.
Clear appliances (such as Invisalign®) use a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners to straighten your teeth. And, no one can tell you are wearing those aligners because they are invisible! Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, plus brushing and flossing are less of a hassle. The aligners are comfortable and have no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment.

Invisalign®
Our Doctors are certified Invisalign provider and was one of the first orthodontists in the borderland area trained in this technique.
While Invisalign isn't appropriate for all patients, it has helped thousands of people achieve beautiful, straight teeth — without braces. A complimentary examination with Dr. Soto can determine if Invisalign is right for you.
What is it?
Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you're wearing. Invisalign is made with 3-D computer imaging technology and has been proven effective.
Why would I want it?
Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. The aligners are comfortable, and achieve orthodontic movement without wires. Invisalign also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.
How does it work?
You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Soto has prescribed.
Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger and are more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth
